For Haun, any products that reduce death loss are ones he’s interested in trying. A little more than a year ago, he tried Respivax® 5 and Prohibit® dewormer, and now they are part of his program -- 100 percent of the cattle in the two feed yards he is a partial owner of use these Huvepharma® products.
Respivax® 5 protects cattle against viral challenges associated with Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD), including Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis, Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus Type 1a and Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus Type 2, Parainfluenza3 and Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus. BRD is responsible for about 50-70 percent of cattle deaths on feedlots and 75 percent of cattle illnesses each year, according to an Oklahoma State University research paper, so naturally, BRD is a large focus for Haun.
Prohibit® dewormer is a broad-spectrum oral dewormer that is effective against stomach worms, intestinal worms and lungworms and is administered as a drench.
“It’s simple for me,” Haun says. “It doesn’t matter how great your marketing is. If your product doesn’t work, I won’t use it.” In addition to the couple of feedyards, Haun also runs 500 cows, goes to grass with several thousand yearlings and owns a sale barn in southeastern Kansas with his dad and youngest son, Trevor. His longtime rep Colby Flatt recommended he give Respivax® and Prohibit® a try, and now he uses the products in the chute as part of his processing protocol.
“I’m tickled with how I’m getting along with these two products,” Haun says. “I know a lot of people, and I tell anyone who asks what my program is. Respivax® is a good vaccine, and it’s getting along well for us.”
Warning: Do not administer Prohibit® to cattle within 48 hours of slaughter for food. To prevent residues in milk, do not administer to dairy animals of breeding age.
